Office of Consumer Affairs Claim Management and Defense
Statewide consumer affairs offices were established
to protect homeowners from unlicensed and/or unprofessional home
renovation contractors. Consumer complaints filed with consumer
affairs may result in a wide range of penalties including, fines and
even license suspension or revocation. Consumers may attempt to take
advantage of significant protections afforded by consumer affairs.
Accordingly, we represent home renovation contractors in consumer
affairs matters throughout the following spectrum of issues that
frequently arise during the claim process:
• Licensing
• Initial response to complaints
• Correspondence with municipal inspectors
• Dealings with municipal claim investigators
• Resolution/Settlement negotiations
• Discovery requests
• Informal hearings
• Administrative adjudications
• Appeals
• Article 78 proceedings
